Default Kenmore 106.56569400 fridge side warm - evaporator keeps frosting up

Today the fridge side of our Kenmore warmed up to about 60 degrees. The freezer side was around 15 degrees. There was barely any cold air blowing thru the diffuser so I took the back panel out of the freezer and the evaporator was pretty iced up. I melted it all with a hair dryer (I had just done this a couple months ago). I put it all back together and there was just a little more air coming out of the diffuser, but it didn't seem very cold. I ended up pulling the diffuser out in case it was sticking shut. Using an infra-red thermometer, the back wall of the freezer is 0 degrees but the vent in the top left of the fridge is 45 degrees. I don't see how the fridge could ever get down to 37 degrees that way.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Denny

Was the evaporator coils completely clogged up? Its normal for them to have a thin layer of frost on all the coils.

If your Air Diffuser wasn't sticking closed, then that should be fine.

Jake,
Yes the evaporator coils were completely clogged, mostly towards the bottom half. It seems to do this every 2-3 months.

The fridge is cooling a little better now, but it still doesn't seem quite as cold as it should be. It's around 45-50 degrees, even though I have it down to the lowest setting - 33. The freezer is still right at 0 degrees.

Its possible your electronic control board is intermittently malfunctioning causing it to do this, I have replaced these boards because of this too.

Here is the one for your model:
Part#8201660
Electronic Control Board

That's what I was afraid of.

The link you gave for the control board didn't work. Could you give it again?

Thanks,
Denny

Thats very strange, I clicked that link and it goes right to the pricing/ordering page.

Here is another part supplier that has it:
Part#8201660
Electronic Control Board

Click that link and see if it works.
