Default kenmore gas range oven won't light

    My Kenmore model 362.75381891
The oven does not always light. the glow bar comes on, sometimes it gets very gassy smelling. The broiler works and the top burners work
Usually I can get it on when I light one of the top burners when I turn on the oven
My husband can probably fix it if I had instructions on how to test whatever

Start by looking at the holes in the side of the burner where the igniter is. Make sure they are clear. The gas has to blow on the igniter to light. If some of the holes get blocked, it won't always light.

    Default gas oven

Ok the oven is sealed- does it come out with screws? Do you have a manual?

Look on the floor of the oven in the back. Remove the two screws holding it down. Lift it up from the back and it will come out. There is a metal flame shield sitting on top of the manifold. Remove the two nuts in the center, one in the front and one in the back. Lift it off and you will see the manifold and igniter.

I have a similiar issue with Model 362.7131190.

The safety valve is opening, I hear and smell gas. I chicken out after 5 min's without ignition. The ignitor is new and is pulling 3.2 Amps. I have cleaned the burner tube. What is keeping this from lighting?

Secondly - Is there any safety that shuts off the gas in this situation? Or will it continue to flood the area with gas until - KABOOM?

Sometimes you have to put the range back together when you test it. There's not enough gas in a concentrated area to light. If the holes in the manifold next to the igniter are clear and the flame shield is on top of the manifold it won't go KABOOM. The worst you would hear is a loud Wooosshhh

Everything was put back in place. I've had flames shoot out about a foot from the bottom when I hear the Wooosshh! Any knowledge of a safety (flame sensor?) to shut off the gas in a situation like this?

No, there is no senser. Check to make sure the small set of holes next to the igniter are clear but be careful not to enlarge them. If you close the broiler door it will probably be ok. Do you have a gas regulator on the range? If not you can put one on.
