    Default GE Washer no spin and burning smell

    I have a GE Model GWSR3090T9WW that recently gave off a burning smell. I took the front panel off to find the motor pully smoking hot. I tried to start the spin cycle again and the belt attempts to spin along with the motor pulley but in the end all that's spinning is the the fitting at the bottom of the motor pulley. I tried to physically spin the drum and it won't budge. Any thoughts?

    Thanks;

    Todd

    Possibly something between the basket and tub.. You will need to remove the top tub cover/splash ring

    There's nothing between the tub and drum, could it be the bearing?

    Does the pulley under the trans turn in 1 direction easy and the other way does it turn and spin the basket with slight effort

    Correct. The basket will turn in the opposite direction with more force than the other direction.

    I took the clutch off and took it in and they said that it looks good. I tried turning the basket manually again and noticed that the pulley stiffens up when the tranny is at the same position everytime and I hear a clunk or metal scraping at the same time. I could be losing my mind, I don't know. If there were clothes on the shaft would the basket spin at all. After I put the clutch back in I started it up and she spun for a bit and then stopped. I was also able to turn the basket using the agitator from inside the basket. What do do from here?

    Sounds like you will need a new transmission assembly.

    Check your owners manual, most have a 5 year warranty on the transmission itself, you just have to pay labor to have it installed.

    The unit is 10 years old. Do you happen to have a diagram of how to install the trany?
