Default Amana SXD25AW ice chute wont close

My parent's ice chute won't close on their ice dispenser. They've kept using it broken by just pullig the lever out themselves, therefore shutting the flap. If looked at a couple of diagrams and I can't figure out exactly what is needed for this repair. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi,

You would need the ice door chute kit.

Here's the one for your model:
    Manufacturer part#R0000447 is RepairClinic item#822937

Do you need help taking the dispenser frame cover off to access it?

Thanks for the help Jake, I've never tackled one of these before so any more links or directions you could send would be much appreciated.

    Ok,

Here's the parts diagram for the front dispenser:

Take off the grill#9, then pull off the cap#16, then remove the 2 screws#15, then the cover#10 should just slide off, slide it to the right. On some models it un-snaps/pops off, but I believe on this one it slides off.

Here's the parts diagram for the inside of it where your door chute is:

Remove the 2 screws#29, then that whole assembly should pull forward out of the way. Then you should be able to get to your door chute#24.

Replacing the door chute didn't do the trick. Looks like I have a bad Airpot? Just guessing, but it appears to be some sort of airtight little pod that helps the door return to the shut position. Does this sound right or am I way of on my guest-imation? Here's the link

or maybe I need one of these do-hickeys

I'm gonna go tinker with it until I get some educated guesses. Thanks.

Just to restate the problem (a little clearer maybe since I have it apart). The ice dispenser arm is not returning to the original starting position after it is pressed in. It stays to the back against the cavity wall, therefore keeping the flap in the open position. The water dispenser arm has two metal spring tension brackets that keep it in the original spot. the ice arm does not as far as I can tell, so that is where my guessing comes in because it isn't real clear to me what returns the ice dispenser arm to the original position. Thanks again.

    Done with my tinkering.

The door flap chute was actually ok. I replaced it anyway because the new one seemed to seal tighter, plus it was a cheap part.

The actual problem was the airpot device. This thing...

It seems it's only function was to prevent the flap from slamming back shut hard. Not sure what went wrong with it, but it was preventing the spring pressure from the flap from closing everything. After I noticied that the chute door closed property with the device removed, I simply lubed up the part that slides into the plastic housing. Works fine now. Hopefully my learning process might help someone else down the road. Thanks again Jake for the help.
