Default [FIXED] kenmore 70 series dryer thumping noise

I have a Kenmore 70 series dryer model 110.62722101 that makes a thumping noise when turned on. I tried spinning the drum by hand and can hear the thumping behind or above the drum. I will be taking it apart shortly to get a better look, any help on what to look for? This dryer has the clips on the top like the kenmore 80 series washer (Which I just changed the lid switch on, first load of laundry went through fine put it in the dryer and it now thumps)

    Thanks,

    Ken

    Hi Ken,

You'll likely need to change your rear rollers.

    Read#18 & #19 here:
    http://www.applianceaid.com/whirlpool-dryers.html
and it will show you how to disassemble it.

Here are the rollers for your model, you can order:

    Default Drum support rollers

Thanks Jake, I received the rollers and disassembled the dryer no problem. Now I am looking at the actual rollers and have checked the website and thread you lead me to, but nothing shows exactly how to take off the rollers and replace them. Any help, I don't want to break the clips or any other parts.

    Ok Ken,

    Jeff explains it here:
The drum rollers have clips that must be removed from the shafts before trying to replace them. If one wheel is worn out, replace them both = less problems later on. See "how to take apart" to access the rollers, once the belt is disconnected from the idler pulley and motor pulley, lift out the drum. The roller on the left has a bracket and 2 clips to remove before the roller can be replaced. The right roller has just 1 clip that must be removed to replace the roller. Use a cloth or fine sand cloth to clean up the shafts, use a light oil before installing the new rollers. DO NOT use a heavy grease as this will attract dust and become very dirty and gum up the rollers. Check the belt will you are there and clean out any dust from motor and from the drum base. See how to take apart information. A new picture of the roller, shaft and clips...

Ok, I was being to gentle with the clips. I removed the rollers put them back on put the dryer back together and gave the tub a couple of spins with my hand. Still a thumping sound. With the top still open on the dryer I could hear more clearly where the sound was coming from. After pinpointing the sound I pulled the front back from the drum and found a bead wedged between the drum and the frame. Removed the bead and problem solved! Anyway I have new rollers and the dryer works after completely taking it apart for no other reason than a simple jammed piece of debris. Thanks for all your help couldn't have done any of this without your website.

Thanks Ken, glad you found that bead in between the drum and frame.

Its rare that something ever gets in between there, but I do remember one I had do that too about 10 years ago, sorry I would have mentioned it, but Its been so long ago.
