Angry Kenmore HE3 washer Plastic Seal from Tub to rubber Boot Broken.

    Model Number: 110.45872400
    Brand: Sears Kenmore

    Model 110.45872400

    Hello, new to site.
My 4 year old HE3 was making a ton of noise in the spin cycle. Further inspection revealed a broken white plastic rim that connects the front of the tub to the rubber boot. This is making the front inner tub an inch too low and therefore the noise. Taking off the top of the washer, it looks like the springs and all 4 hydrollic support arms are working.

    1. How do I replace with white plastic rim?
    2. What's the part number?
    3. Any ideas why this happened so that I can prevent it again?

    THANKS!!!

wow, thats very unusual, I've never seen that part break before. I've seen lots of the boot bellows tear/break but not the plastic that it mounts onto.

Here's the parts diagram for your model:

This is the part that broke, correct?:
Manufacturer part number 285982 is RepairClinic item number 1058889

    Thanks for the reply.
A repair man came today to give an estimate. He was nice enough to not charge for the estimate. He believes that the rear bearing was out, not sure how he determined this. I feel the tub spins fairly easily when held in a straight position. He says the entire repair job would take 3.5 hours and costs about $700, therefore recommended buying a new one (he recommended LG). He mainly said the big cost was that the rear bearing was attached to the tub and replacing the tub costs about $300. Does this sound accurate to you? I personally would like to replace the white rim in front ($150) IF it's not a huge job. Can I replace it from the front or does the entire tub need to come out the rear?
    THanks again!

    Ok Scott,

But you have a 5 yr. warranty gearcase/bearing on the parts, so Sears should cover the bearing part, but you would just pay labor, read page 3 here:

    Default Thanks Jake

Nice work, you're correct. The rear bearing is considered part of the gearbox. However, even though this bearing caused the front of the tub to crack, they wouldn't cover that. With labor (huge repair), it was going to cost me over $400. I found a great LG together with my local utility co. efficiency rebate delivered for $660. The repair could have taken up to 2 weeks.
Thanks for your advice and quick responses. Hopefully I won't be needed u with the LG. From everyone I talked to, it sounds like a better brand than Whirlpool/Kenmore/Maytag. Here we go again USA, the foreign brands are getting better.

Ok, since I don't work on LG, I won't be able to assist you if the new LG breaks down the road, lets hope it doesn't.
