Default Kenmore Model 665 Ultra Wash won't drain

    Model Number: 665.15812990
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 6-10 years

Greetings. And thank you very much in advance for any assistance with this issue.

Our Kenmore 665 has been operating flawlessly for several years, but recently its ran into some problems with its ability to drain and/or operate. On the normal wash cycle, the base fills up at the beginning with water as normal, but then the wash cycle fails to initialize. The red light on the "cancel/drain" button lights up and the dishwasher quits. At that point, if I were to push the "drain" button, I hear a few clicking sounds as if a motor has seized up and nothing happens. So then the only way to drain the dishwasher at that point is to do it manually by removing the drain hose from underneith.

Ive inspected the air gap and it seems to be free of any obstruction. Ive also inspected the check valve and as far as I know it seems to be in perfect working condition as well.

Thank you very much with your assistance as any advice with this issue is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

You should have some numbers after the 665 in your model#, as they make 3 different style pumps for the Kenmore models. The model# tag is located inside the door on the side of the tub frame.

    Thanks,

On this model you don't have a separate drain pump, so if its not draining, then your motor has seized up or something is jammed/stuck in your upper or lower impeller.

Here's the impeller kit for your model:

The hardest part is getting the impeller screw out.

Jeff explains here how to do it: http://www.applianceaid.com/dishrepairhelp.html

Default Kenmore Ultra Wash 665 Not Draining

    Hi Jake,

I'm having a similar issue with mine...

    Here's my dishwasher's info:
    Model 665 15812990
    Serial: FK2044122
    Stock No.: 15812

It was making a very lound grinding noise a day or two ago, but then it stopped... but now, no drainage.

Assuming that since the model number and stock number are the same, that's the same for me.

So I would need the impeller kit and pump motor?

    Thanks for your help!

Now what I find on these models 95% of the time when it won't drain properly is the check valve clogged.

There should be just a black rubber flapper inside that check valve, push something through it, like a pen, it should go through. Also flush it with water from your sink.

Here's the check valve for your model:

Watch this video to access it:

If the check valve is clear and not clogged, then check the drain impeller to see if its broken or cracked, its the gray one in the photo below.

The impeller kit is a different part# for your model, but the video to access/change it is the same.

Hi Jake, thanks for your great advice... I checked the check valve, looked to be OK... So I pulled the inside of the dishwasher apart, and sure enough the grey piece was chewed up where the little spring thingy is supposed to fit in. Also found a plastic milk cap, a hard straw, and a cap from a Kool-aid bottle. Ordering my new impeller kit now, and assuming that will take care of it. I'll post a picture of the grey piece if I can figure out how! In the meantime, thanks again... left a tip for ya in the donation tip jar.

You should be back in business when you get the new impeller kit installed.
