    Default Ice maker freezing up

I have a frigidaire model # FRS26H7CSB4. Let me start from the beginning. Over the last couple of years, the ice tray filler tube has been freezing up. I would simply thaw the tube and ice maker would run fine. In the last month, the tube had been freezing over at least once a week. The last time it froze over, the ice auger also stopped working. When I went to thaw the tube, the back of the freezer was covered in ice. I was able to thaw out the auger motor and was able to get it to run again. Since my ice bin was full, I decided to leave the ice maker off while I researched why the fill tube was freezing. I replaced the water filter and went to turn the ice maker back on (the entire time the water dispenser has worked just fine). When I went to lift the bar, the fill tube was frozen over again. I thawed the fill tube, lifted the bar but was unable to see any water fill the ice maker. Thinking it just needed to cycle through, I left it that way and went to work. That night, no new ice had been made. However, now there is ice all over the back of my freezer and shelves. How do I proceed from here?

    Hi,

It sounds like your ice maker fill tube is either broken and leaking the ice maker fill water onto the back inside of your freezer, or its out of place. You may need to remove the ice maker to check it.

Here's the ice maker fill tube for your model, in case you need to order it:

The ice maker tube is fine. I've checked it each time it's frozen over. When I defrosted the freezer, I checked it again. But after each time I thaw it and replace it, the tube freezes again. I made sure that the insulation on the back side of the freezer was in place. I even added more. But within days, the fill tube is frozen again.

Possibly then your water pressure is low, and that will cause the tube to keep freezing up as well.

Where does your water supply line come from? A regular water valve thats in the wall behind your refrigerator? or did someone install a self-piercing saddle one on your cold water pipe in your house plumbing(those clog up alot).

There is a dedicated valve behind the unit that the plumber installed , we do have low water pressure, but the water dispenser works fine it never plugs, The fill tube went about a year before it froze over the second time, then about a month for the third. the fourth time it took only a week or less. The last time, that it froze, the ice maker was turned off, I only saw it because I wanted to see if water was filling the Ice maker .

sounds like you got a defrost problem. The vlv could be seeping from Jake's above mentioned seeping, your fridge defrosts itself every so often, a heater comes on, thaws the ice of coils in freezer, and drains to evaporator in bottom of fridge, if the drain hole in the freezer is blocked, it will freeze up.

Yes, then thats true about the water inlet valve could be not closing all the way and seeping a small amount of water in to cause the fill tube to keep clogging, thats about the only possibility left that would cause the fill tube clog.

Here's the water inlet valve for your model you can order:

I ordered the valve, I hope that fixes the problem. Can you tell me or show me the process for cycling the Ice maker? That will allow me to watch the water fill the Ice tray, last time I was unable to tell if i was getting water to the ice maker.

On your model to cycle the ice maker you just turn the main gear on it, there should be an arrow that shows which way to turn it. Just turn it a little and then it will continue on its own.
