Default [FIXED] Front loader 3 years old won't spin

Okay, I have a 3 year old (bought new) Kenmore front loader washer model 970-C45192-30 that has stopped spinning.

I have watched it on the spin cycle and the water pumps out, it tries to spin slowly a few times and stops after about one minute. Seems like an out of ballance thing, but we have tried adding or removing clothes and it does the same thing.

When you watch it, the drum does not bounce around which would prove to me that there is no ballance problem and the shocks are good.

I am going to pull the bottom hose off the pump to see if there is an issue there, I don't suspect there is.

It aggitates the loads normal during the wash and rinse cycles.

Can the machine store error codes? If so, how to I get them?
Is there a sensor on the pump that tells the machine there is or isn't water left to allow the spin cycle to start?

Damn thing, only 3 year old. Help me out it is Christmas and the wife doesn't enjoy hand wringing out clothes!!

Follow up. I just ran a rinse/spin cycle with nothing in the machine and here is what iti is doing.

-fills and aggitates as it should
-13 minutes left starts to drain, does so at a normal rate
-8 minutes left it stops the pump and starts to slowly spin each direction for about 5 seconds each way.
-with 7 minutes left it stops and shuts off, cycle end chime starts.

At a loss, so far. Opening up the machine now to see if there is something obvious.

We did have a power outage during a windstorm a few weeks ago. I do know that the hydo crews tried to tun the power back on after a 2 hour outage and did so for about half a second when a transformer in the area blew and the power was out for another 2 hrs.

Damage from a power surge? Every other electronic device in the house is fine.

    Hi,

I don't have a parts diagram for Canadian models, but it sounds like either its the motor/motor controller.

You should have a tech. data sheet in the bottom access panel that will tell you how to test the motor and motor controller.

Okay, I found the tech sheet under the top lid. I am getting error 47 code.

I took the door lock out and not sure where to test the ohms on it. I ran it through the diagnostic tests and everything works so I cleared the codes and running a rinse/drain cycle as I type this.

I will see what it does and then check to see if any codes have reappeared.

Nope, same deal. Drains and won't spin. I am going to check J2 on the board and see if the door lock is opening/closing the circut. If it is, it looks like it could be the board.

    DOH!

Ok E47 means its the door latch/lock switch thats bad.

I'm assuming your model is the exact same one as the Kenmore 417 models sold here in the states.

    Here's the Frigidaire/Kenmore 417 Service manual:
3.0 cu.ft. Horizontal Axis Front-Load Washer (Good & Better Models):
    www.applianceblog.com/manuals/5995413084_Washer_2004.pdf

I'm assuming yours uses this one, they ship to Canada:
    p/n 131763202
The manufacturer has replaced Part Number (WCI) 131763245 with the exact replacement Part Number (WCI) 131763202.

    Here's a photo of yours:
    Manufacturer's Number: 131763245

Thanks for all that info. I do suspect it is the door switch because I cannot get an indication of an open/closed circut when I push on the switch lever inside the mechanism.

Strange thing is if I try to run it with the door open, it won't and flashes "dr". When I close the door it will start to run, just not spin.

Yes, its the door latch/lock switch assembly, a new one will fix it.

Okay, troubleshooting is done, it is the wax motor. I took the switch appart and carefully tripped the contact points to fool the computer, and low and behold it spins.

Last question, can you buy just the wax motor pn 11176-63 ?

That manual you linked me to did the trick. It explained how the door latch worked and gave me the courage to take mine appart.

Okay, I have done some researching online and looks like the part number for the wax motor replacement should be 99001807. About $25 up here in Canada.

Thanks again for the information, saved me a lot of money.
