Default Loud sound in spin cycle

    Model Number: MAH5500BWW
    Brand: Maytag

Our Maytag Neptune washer is about 7 years old. During the spin cycle, when there about 5 minutes left for the load, it sounds very loud, almost like a jet engine when it spins. If looking at the machine from the back the sound seems to be loudest coming from the top right area of the unit. Any ideas as to what is the cause, and potential fix, would be appreciated.

Yes, its your rear outer tub bearing thats bad.

    You have a few choices,

    1. Replace the outer tub assembly outer tub assembly PART# 22004465 that includes the new bearings already installed for you, but its very expensive.

    2. Replace just the bearings, but very hard and difficult job to do, you MUST be mechanically inclined to do this, very labor intensive.

    3. Buy a new washer.

This thread explains all about it:

    Default Thank you

I will visit with my wife to see what she thinks. If we are going to choose option 3 is there any harm in running this one (if we can stand the sound) until it finally dies? Thanks again.

It would still be fine to run it like that until it dies.
