Default Kenmore Elite Trio error code Er IF

    Model Number: 795.77563600
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 1-5 years

I have a Kenmore Trio that is showing Er IF on the display. I found the icemaker caked in ice, the cubes backed up and the water kept cycling and basically encased the entire mechanism. It backs up or gets cubes stuck often, so I replaced the ice maker. Error still shows. A little more research determined ice maker fan, so I found the fan, pulled the cover and the fan motor was also caked with ice. I removed the ice, repowered and the fan will cycle on about 5 seconds and off for about 15 seconds three times and the error code shows up again and fan goes dead. The freezer fan is working fine, so we haven't lost anything in the freezer, just the ice maker/water dispenser.

I had the mother board replaced a year or more ago, I can't remember the error code when that happened, but this code seems familiar - just can't be sure.

I cannot find the ice maker fan online anywhere, but since it cycles fine and does not get hot, I assume it is ok. During the on cycle, it seems strong and steady.

SO - am I looking at another mother board?? I could easily assume that the ice build up may have stopped the fan and took out the board.

Ok, I haven't really worked on many of these, but here is a thread from another member with a similar issue: FIXED Kenmore Trio 795.77573600 Er If

I will message and email JuanLT to see what part fixed his. They do have a seperate ice maker fan motor I found out, but haven't worked on these newer models yet to tell you for sure what part is bad.

If it makes any difference, my model number more correctly is 795.77563600

I did read that thread, it sounds like the same issue I am having. I appreciate any help you can offer Jake.

    Thanks!

Jake, do you have a part number for the ice maker fan? Also, is the mother board a direct swap, or is there any programming that needs to be done - can I simply order one and swap it out?

Yes, I don't believe the motherboard needs to be programmed, if it does it will come with an instruction sheet on how to do it.

Here's is the ice maker fan motor assembly:
Manufacturer part number 5209JA1044A is RepairClinic item number 1268059

Here's the motherboard for your model:
Manufacturer part number EBR34917104 is RepairClinic item number 1463582

That is the fan! Cool. Thanks, Jake, I'll change each one first and update what happens for future reference.

So, UPDATE! Ordered a new ice maker fan and mother board to swap each and see which fixes the issue. Installed ice maker fan first, all has been well for a full day, ice maker is making ice, error code is gone.

So there it is - Ice Maker Fan!!

    Default Location of the fan

Where is the fan located at? Is it in the freezer on the left?
