    Default Whirlpool microwave blowing fuse

    Model Number: mh3184xps-4
    Brand: Whirlpool

Whirlpool microwave keeps blowing fuse. I put in a new fuse and if I open or close the door the fuse will blow again. Could this mean I have a bad door sensor? If so what one, I see three of them.

I can't see a door switch causing the fuse to blow. Since the fuse blows before you even activate the heating cycle the problem is most likely not in the high voltage sector (capacitor, diode , transformer, magnetron). I've had a wire burn off the light socket and touch against the chassis of the microwave. Every time the door was opened or the light switch turned on the fuse would blow. Do a visual check of all the wiring. Use your nose and try to detect any burning smells coming from the microwave then follow the smell to the source.

    Hi,

Could this mean I have a bad door sensor?
Bad door switch ( not sensor ) yes.

Q - My microwave went dead when I opened the door ( same problem as closed the door ).
A - This often is a stuck or faulty door switch and it has blown the interior microwavefuse.

If so what one, I see three of them.
    They all should be checked.

    Default No power

Thank you for the posts. I check all the wiring but could not find anything wrong. I also checked all three fuses and they all check out good with my meter. So I plugged the microwave back in and check power in a couple of different spots. All showed 120 in my meter. Now still nothing even with good fuses.

It seems now that I'm going backwards. I unplugged it and check all three door switches for continuity. Two of the switches have two wires coming off of them and they check out good. The other switch had three wires.

Check it and couldn't change continuity with the door closed or open.

So is this the bad switch? Can I pull the door switch out and open it to see if it's bad inside? Witch one is the power relay? Could I have another problem because there is now no power with all good fuses? Thank you for the help..>>

    -Sounds- bad.

Can I pull the door switch out and open it to see if it's bad inside?
    Most yes.

    I popped open this one...

Witch one is the power relay?
Relays are normally on the PCBoard.

Could I have another problem because there is now no power with all good fuses?
    Sure.
But we can't see how you are testing....hopefully not to ground.
