Default Kenmore washer agitates but will not spin, why?

    Model Number: 110.22942100
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 6-10 years

Washer Details: Manufacturer: Kenmore Model #: 110.22942100
On a regular cycle the washer tub fills up according to the load and starts to agitate. When I put it in a spin cycle, the water drains and I hear the motor making noise, but the tub will not spin, so the cloths will stay drenched. This implies the Switch is working, since the motor is spinning and stops making noise when I open the lid.
I took out the motor, clutch and transmission assembly, when I spin the motor clockwise, the clutch starts to spin, so the transmission is okay.
The plastic actuator is also not broken.
Now there are two things that could be bad: the clutch or the brake.
What should I do to see which of these are broken? What physical damage should I look for? Is there is something else?

Thank you for any help, I have spent all day trying to fix it.

Your clutch is weakening imo, do this test,,, open your lid, press in your lid switch and put in spin( no clothes or water), does it spin? if not give it a push and see if it continues,,, if it does spin after starting the spin by hand, youll need to replace your clutch,,, Jake will link you to your correct part shortly

Yes it does spin. First it was slow, it had some water and a clothing article in it, it drained and spun at the same time, then it started picking up speed. When the water was all drained, it started spinning really fast, but I had to stop it because it was going out of control and making weird noises, like the tub was hitting something. If it is making these noises, is it still the clutch or maybe a bearing seized up in the tripod, above where the break goes into.

If I post a picture of the clutch, would you be able to tell if it worn out?

Yes, sounds like the clutch from that video.

Ok, this clutch is different in that it does not come as a kit like most other common one does.

So you'd need to order the clutch and the Band & Lining assembly

Here's the clutch assembly for your model you can order:
Manufacturer part number 8299642 is RepairClinic item number 831493

Here's the Band & Lining assembly:
Manufacturer part number 3951993 is RepairClinic item number 547692

Here's a help video for replacing the clutch:

I always change the basket drive as well on the ones I do, as when the clutch wears out the basket drive is wearing as well and its just a matter of time before that goes out.

Here is the basket drive for your model:
Manufacturer part number 285792 is RepairClinic item number 1254

Thank you for all the help:

Here are some pics of the brake and clutch. One other thing I noticed was that when I turned the tranny couple the, the tranny does not turn continuously, is that normal.

When you turn the tranny coupler it should turn the tranny shaft continuously, then if you turn it the other way, the tranny shaft should agitate back and forth.

Jake thank you so much for your time and help.

When I spin the tranny couple couter-clockwise, it agitates normally, but when I spin it clockwise, it rotates for a while and then it stops and starts to rotate again.

So is it just the tranny then or should i still just replace the clutch? Should I open up the transmission and see if there are broken gears or something? Thanks again.
