Default 106.44429601 Kenmore Elite Side by side - Smoked by Generator

    Model Number: 106.44429601
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 1-5 years

    Hi,

Powered my Kenmore 106.44429601 Elite side by side with an old generator during a power outage. Looks like the elctronics in the fridge did not like what the generator was putting out (probably high voltage ~128Vac and not so clean). Actually saw some smoke come out of the ice / water dispensing section.

The lights come on in the fridge but no controls are lit. I found that the circuit board in the freezer side door has a burnt resistor on it. I think this board is reffered to as the dispenser control board. I ordered a new one. I checked all other boards and they look ok to the extent that I do not see anything burnt on them. Looked at the main control board where the power comes in, the compressor inverter, the control board in teh fridge side.

My question is do you think the problem will be solved with the replacement of this one board? I know it is hard to tell but I am hoping it will be. I just don't want to risk burning up another board but I guess I have to gamble.

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks!

So the refrigerator is just dead now? No cooling either?

Because that dispenser control board just operates the dispenser, not the compressor.

Here's the dispenser control board for your model:

    Hi,

Yeah, the fridge and freezer are dead, no cooling. Looks like the compressor circuit is not being turned on at all. I replaced the dispenser board and now all those functions seem to be ok but still no control. The main controller (on/off, temp adjust etc) is not lit. I guess I will try that board next. I assuume this board controls the compressor circuit. It looked ok so i did not buy one with the dispenser board, kinda assumed the dispenser board may have something to do with this control also not working.

    Thanks
