Default Kitchen Aid Dishwasher---no lights on control panel but has power

    Model Number: KUDC25CHBT1
    Brand: KitchenAid
    Age: More than 10 years

    Hi,

I have a Kitchen Aid dishwasher model # KUDC25CHBT1. My dishwasher all the sudden won't respond to any commands. There's no lights on the control panel. Unlike other posts, it hasn't been acting weird or any lights blinking. Just boom---it won't work. I've done some homework and have determined it's probably not the control board since it's not erradically acting up. From what I've found, there's fuses in the dishwasher but I don't have the ohmmeter to test them.

If it's the control board, I've found out it's $200 to get the full assembly. Well beyond what I'm willing to spend on a dishwasher of this age.

From discussing this with Kitchen Aid customer service, I was directed to purchase the "dishwasher door switch repair" kit (part # 4318273). Am I on the right track that the fuses are the likely culprit? I don't want to blow $40 for this kit if isn't what I need.

I've included the link to the 'kit' and the parts list for this model.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, 99% of the time if it acts dead then its the thermal fuse.

Here's the thermal fuse kit for your model you can order:

The wires must be replaced with it that it comes with.

Watch this video to ohm it:

    Default followup question

Thanks for the reply. The part you recommended is similar to the part proposed by KitchenAid customer service.

Was their customer service just wrong on the part to use? Just would like to be sure before I order the part...need to get this dishwasher up and running.

Thanks again for your continued help.

Yes, when you talk to KitchenAid you are talking to customer service, not a tech.

Default New part recvd & installed--still not working

I received the part tonight and installed it per the video instructions. The dishwasher still has no lights on the display and is unresponsive. Turned on power to the unit after finishing the install and that's still good.

Any other things to check? Thanks for your help.

I also double checked my electrical wiring connections to ensure good contact.

Ok, check for 120 volts at the junction box underneath the dishwasher where the main power comes in, I've seen those 2 wire nuts there melt and come loose and cause a loss of power as well.

    Default puzzled

I disconnected the power to the dishwasher last night where the main power comes to the unit and reconnected it after I was done. Did that so I wouldn't have to lose power to other parts of the kitchen while I was working on it.

The wire nuts aren't melted and looking around, nothing seems out of the ordinary. I'm puzzled....

Usually when door switches fails the lights on the control panel would still work, You can ohm the door switches for continuity, watch this video:

If the switches test good, then we are running out of things to check for. Check for a broken wire from down below the dishwasher up to the top control panel.
