Default Freezer leaking water through bottom of door

    Model Number: TFX22CR
    Brand: GE
    Age: More than 10 years

I have a GE TFX22CR side-by-side refrigerator which has recently started leaking water from the bottom of the freezer door. I finally caught the leak in action and know that it is coming from inside the freezer and not the water line for the ice or water dispenser. The water is not a steady drip rather it leaks out about 10 to 20 oz over a period of approximately 30 to 60 seconds. On the bottom of the freezer in the back is a small shelf with a drain. When I caught the leak the water over that drain was liquid and it appears the shelf and drain were not able to retain the water that overflowed and ran out the door. Presently, the water over the drain is frozen and there is some ice buildup along the bottom of the freezer.

Any suggestions as to how to resolve the drain problem and/or any other possible root causes I may be overlooking?

Yes defrost drain hole/line is clogged.

You'll need to defrost that ice with a hair dryer and hot water.

Once all the ice is out, try to run hot water down the defrost drain hole, also run something down the defrost drain hole, like a little rotor router snake.

I use a evaporator cooler spider snake:

They are used basically in Arizona to clean out the water pump tubes that run to the cooler pads.

I don't know if they would sell them in your area, but if you go to your local hardware store, they should have something similar to run down your drain to clean it completely out.

Also pour a little bleach down the drain hole after you clear it out.

Thanks, Jake. That seems to have done the trick.
