Be sure the dryer is in Standby Mode (plugged in and all indicators off). Press the following button sequence: MORE TIME ➔ LESS TIME ➔MORE TIME ➔ LESS TIME - all within 5 seconds. All indicators on the console are illuminated with “88” showing in the “ESTIMATED TIME REMAINING” (two-digit) display, if this test mode has been entered successfully.
If E1 or E2 flashes in the display there’s a problem with the thermistor.
Opening the door should cause a beep tone and a number and letter to be indicated in the two-digit display. Closing the door firmly should cause a beep tone and the display to go blank or indicate “88”.
Pressing each button or turning the cycle selector to each cycle, should cause a beep tone and control one or more LED’s. Pressing the HOLD TO START button will also control the motor and heater while the two digit display will indicate a software project number.

i did all those tests except the HOLD TO START button.. i completely disassembled the entire dryer. everything else checked out ok.. my last thought is that the motor is not working.. i even checked the belt pulley switch... does this sound right?

Are the buttons responding but just won't start? Hear any beeps when you press the start button? From what I've seen on these models, anytime you have a problem with the control panel touchpad buttons not responding, its the touchpad control panel assembly thats the problem.

Now if the buttons were responding properly and it wouldn't start and just beeped 3 times, then it would be the control board, if the door switch checked fine and the thermal fuse checked fine.

Here is the online repair manual for the Whirlpool/Kenmore Duet/HE3 dryer: http://www.applianceblog.com/manuals/Duetdry.pdf
    Give it time to download.

It shows how to get access to the control board on page 4-2 through 4-4.

Unplug or turn the breaker off to your dryer first.

so now i dont think it was the motor... ordered from Repair Clinic

here are some pictures... of what i get when i got into the diagnostic mode..

1st i get all the lights and 88 shows up.. if i open door, it goes away and comes back when i shut it again..

2ndly.. i depressed all the buttons but these two buttons will not do anything (no beep or light turn off) - Jeans and Heavy Duty

3rdly.. i pressed the hold to start test.. and i hear a click and 06 shows up on the display..

i need help.. or its off to buy a new dryer..

OK, listen to me Johnny my friend, just answer the questions and we can tell you what to check next instead of getting ahead of us. If you got the motor from RepairClinic, you can return it. When you did the HOLD TO START test, you got a project Id number but the motor didn't start, right? So now you need to check for supply voltage going to the motor. When you push the START button to start the machine, on the control board, check for 120 VAC between P1-2 white wire (Neutral) and P1-4 light blue wire (Motor). Make sure the door is closed. If you don't have the correct voltage, order the control board from the link Jake gave you.

    Yes, Rick is correct.

From others who had this issue, a new control board fixed theirs. So I'd order the control board.
