Default Maytag PSD2350DR* compressor not starting, bad overload relay

    Model Number: PSD2350DR
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 6-10 years

Hello, I have the maytag psd2350dr and it has recently stopped working.

Yesterday i could hear a clicking noise, and today when i woke up i noticed it was not cooling.
I disconnected the fridge and checked the back for the overload relay, because i read that if it rattles, then its bad.
So yes, the ptc start device was burnt. The cables that connect to the start device were slightly burnt, so i went to get this part The white plastic box with 2 orange wires, one white and one blue wires attached to the compressor was burned to give out black smoke. I guess the part is Overload/relay. The part # is 12002783. Please advise this is right part. Thanks for your help. at a local appliance store.

as i was installing, i noticed that the start device required a white cable to be connected on #2 on relay, so i did and then it said to connect either an orange or white wire to right terminal(#3 on relay)

the thing is, the orange cable that comes from the fridge is coupled with another orange cable, and the terminal is smaller than that of the ptc start device. the white one fits perfectly fine, but the orange doesnt fit there, but it does fit in the other white jumper wire that is connected on #2 on relay.

so i tried connecting it, in three different positions, and no position made my compressor run, what could cause this? is the wiring wrong?

why would my old start device burn out and now that i replace it wont even start the compressor?

Ok, I just located a thread from robinh: http://www.applianceblog.com/mainfor...ng-fridge.html

He explains it very well with photos included.

His model uses the exact same start relay kit you got.

    Thank you Jake!

I connected the power and nothing would come up, so as i was walking out i hear it click and it turns on!

but, its clicking, turning on, turning off, clicking, every two minutes or so, does this mean that my compressor can be really going bad?

can the clicking cause the start relay to burn off?

Its the compressor then thats bad, check your owners manual warranty, some of these Maytag models have up to a 10 yr. warranty on the compressor.
