Default Kenmore side by side refrigerator quit cooling

    Model Number: 106.55522400
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 6-10 years

My kenmore side by side refrigerator quit cooling. The model number is 106.55522400. Here is what I have checked. The evaporator fan runs. No ice build up on the evaporator coils. The condensor and fan doesn't run or doesn't try to come on. I have replaced the thermastat on the evaporarator coils. The ohms on the heating element is 28. The condensor coils have a little build up but not much. Also when i found it getting warm the condensor was cool to touch. Can someone help on what else to check to get it working again.

Did you put your hand on the top of the compressor(big black round ball shaped part) to see if that was warm at all or room temperature?

Sounds like either your compressor start relay went out or your not getting power to the compressor start relay to start the compressor and condenser fan motor.

Follow this guide to check it to see if it rattles:
[FIXED] How to replace a (Whirlpool/Kenmore Model 106) Refrigerator Start Relay

    Does yours look like this:
Start Device 2319792 Order now for same day shipping. 365 day return policy. RepairClinic.com

If your compressor start relay is fine, then you can take the two wires off the compressor start relay and your volt meter to check for 120 volts at the two wires while the refrigerator is running.

If no 120 volts present, then its your control board thats bad.

    You can order it here:
    Manufacturer's Number: 8201660

It the board that you set your temperatures with on your push button control panel inside the refrigerator section.

The big black ball I'm assuming is compressor, I touched it all over and it was cool. When I pull the start relay off no rattle. There is another piece attached in the back of the relay, when I pull it off the relay rattles. If the relay is bad will that cause the condensor fan not to come on.

That's the run capacitor, they don't make the compressor start.

No, it wouldn't, so sounds like you need a new control board: Manufacturer's Number: 8201660

365 day warranty/full refund if you order it from that link.

Yeah I didn't think the compressor fan would run if the start relay was bad. I had followed the wires and they are tired to the same connector so I thought they would come on at the same time. I pulled control board apart and there are several black relays. I tapped on them when it was powered up and the compressor fired off. So right now it's running and on Monday I will order another board. Thanks again for all the help

Ok, then thats it, once you order and install the new control board you'll be back in business.
