whirlpool gold fridge pooling ice in bottom of freezer
My whirlpool gold fridge (bottom freezer) accumulates ice on the bottom of the freezer. It may go days without any buildup, then I will quickly get a 1/4 inch thick ice rink. If I don't keep an eye on it, it will eventually fill the shallow depression at the bottom of the freezer box and run water out the front and onto the floor. I'm assuming there is something in the icemaker that is leaking or malfunctioning, but I can't seem to track down the problem. It still makes ice cubes just like it is supposed to, so I don't know it it's overfilling itself or what. Whenever I hear it filling I stick my head in to look for drips, but I've not caught anything yet.

It's not the ice maker. The drain under the evaporator is blocked and needs to be defrosted. Unplug the machine. Remove the evaporator cover (freezer section, back wall). Use a hair dryer to defrost the drain then run very hot water through it to clean it out. A turkey baster works well for that.
