Default Whirlpool Gas Oven shutting off

    Model Number: WFG361LVS1
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

Our gas oven starting acting up yesterday. The oven heats up fine but at some point it shuts down or fails to reignite to maintain the temp set. It acts like it shuts off since he does not show the temperature anymore. It goes back to only showing the time instead of over temp. We had a power outage in the area. Could it need to be unplugged to reset? Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

It sounds like you might have a problem with the direct spark safety valve. Set the Ohm meter on RX100. Remove the three wires from the gas valve. The wire connectors are different sizes so they can be replaced in the same spot. The center terminal is the common terminal. Put one meter probe on the center terminal and touch one of the other terminals and then the other terminal. The meter should read 216 Ohms both times. If one doesn't work the other won't work either. Start there because it's a common part to fail.

Not to question because I really do not know what I am doing but when I read this information (see below) on the manuals it makes me thing it could be something else since the broil appears to work fine. If this was bad would the broil not function?

    TEST PROCEDURE

    Solenoid Resistance Tests

    1. Disconnect power from the range.

    2. Set the ohmmeter to the R x 100 scale.

    3. Touch the ohmmeter terminals to terminals

1 and 2 (Broil). The ohmmeter should

    read 216
    Ω 30.

    4. Touch the ohmmeter terminals to terminals

3 and 2 (Bake). The ohmmeter should

    read 216
    Ω 30.

NOTE: Always check both solenoids. If one of

the solenoids is defective, neither one will

    operate.

It may or may not depending on if it's open, shorted or out of range. It's just easy to measure it and get it out of the way if it's not the problem. When the oven shuts off can you hear the igniter spark? Look for the tech sheet behind the lower drawer or taped to the bottom or taped to the inside panel. It will have the instructions or steps to enter a quick diagnostic check and error code check. Read all the instructions first before you start. I might have one if you can't locate yours.
