Lightbulb Kenmore Electric Range Model 790.97439802 Oven Not Working

    Model Number: 790.97439802
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 1-5 years

    Hi,

I was hoping someone might be able to help me with troubleshooting my Kenmore 790.9743 Electric Range.

The stove top and the clock are working fine but the oven is not heating up. I moved the stove out, opened up the back panel and checked the voltage on all of the wiring. Everything looks fine. When the oven is on the voltage goes up to 250, when its off it stays at 120.

I've gotten the oven to get slightly warm (118*) a couple of times since it stopped working but that was it. When I turn on the oven, the clock shows it starting to preheat and I hear clicks every couple of minutes but no temperature change.

    The oven light works perfectly.

Does any one have any thoughts on what might be the matter?

    Thanks,
    Anna

    Hi Anna,

Your model# 790.9743 is just a partial model number, we need the complete model#. It shows 18 models matching 790.9743 here: "790.9743" Parts from RepairClinic.com You can click the link there that says Where is my model number? to locate you complete model number.

Now where are you measuring for the voltage test for the 250 volts when the oven Is ON? Across both bake element terminals where your 2 wires connect to? Remember for AC Volts you CAN'T measure each to ground.

Thanks for your quick reply, Jake! The model number I have is 790.97439802.
We were measuring each to ground. Now there was no power going across the bake element terminals. Would you have any suggests about possible next steps?

    Thanks so much!

    Thanks Anna,

Then its likely your clock oven control board went out, very common on this model.

Here's the clock oven control board for your model you can order here:
Oven Control Board 316462878 Order now for same day shipping. 365 day return policy. RepairClinic.com

You will need to disconnect the power and pull the unit out. Once you can access the back, you will remove the back panel covering the back of the clock. Once removed, you will access the screws securing the clock to the control panel. Remove the screws from the clock assembly. Remove the wires, one at a time, and install them onto the new clock assembly as you remove them from the old clock. Install the new clock in reverse order once the wires are connected.
