True kegerator compressor not kicking on, hard start kit maybe?
More than 10 years
I recently replaced the compressor on a True kegerator with the help of Rick on this forum. Here is the link to that thread.
True TDD-1 kegerator, not getting cold - Page 6
I just aquired another True Kegerator and the compressor is not kicking on. The condenser fan starts as does the evaporator fan inside the cabinet.
I pulled the overload and relay and tested the compressor per this the instruction on this youtube video
How To Test A Compressor - YouTube
Everything tested worked perfectly. I have continuity between all 3 connections on the compressor(start, run and common). I don't have a short to ground either.
I assume the compressor is locked up.
What should my next step be?
Would you recommend installing a hard start kit?

Once the compressor locks up that's about it for the compressor. Years ago I made a box that would break free locked rotors using a reversing switch and 220 VAC. The best that would do is buy some time. Replace the compressor if it's worth it.

Thanks for the quick reply Rick. That is a very cool box you built.
I'll order another compressor tomorrow.
