Default Neptune motor control board burn out

I have a Maytag Neptune 5500. Thanks to your site I found the sheet of paper hidden inside the machine control area. I followed the instructions and found the problem - the motor control board is burnt up. Something caused the control board to fry. Any idea of what might have caused it? Paying $200 for a new board hurts enough, but finding out the board will burn again....
    Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm assuming its the MAH5500 model?

On these models door wax motor was the main cause of that main control board failure.

Here is lowest price I found on the main control board for your model, in case others need to order it.(click photo for pricing/ordering information):

Here is the wax motor for the door lock/latch:

    Default MOTOR control failure

It looks like the issue is the motor control, not the machine control. My 5500B has the same problem - one of the MOSFETS on the motor control board smoked.

My 5500b does not have the "wax motor" door latch, rather the traditional solenoid actuator. Mine is 6 years old - don't know when they stopped using the wax motor that was indeed responsible for failures of machine control board.

It further looks like the motor/control has been upgraded to a different type and the original control board is not available. I checked my existing motor - it appears fine, I'm going to try and repair the control board rather than spend $200.

    Dave,

Were you ever able to repair the motor control board?

Default maytag neptune 5500 motor control board failure

The motor board of the Maytag Neptune 5500 has been doing funny things in the last few weeks. The control lights switch from one another and navigate through the board panel. Sometimes they do not respond to pressing. Today they do not respond at all. After dusting off the board, and letting the machine rest unplugged, we tried a few more times without success. When we were about to commit suicide, the machine began to work, but we don't know for how long.

It seems that something is wrong with the electronics of the motor control board of some other component in the area, because the door seems to lock OK and the engine works fine.

Any help before I spent 200+ in a technitian?

    Hi Balaena,

Check your warranty, you should have a 10 yr. warranty on the motor.

Read this thread, you may not have to pay anything to get this motor conversion kit:

    Jake:

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but it is not the motor, but the motor control board, the plate that has a bunch of electronic circuits, placed on top of the washer. The folded paper with instructions call it "motor control board" I think that that is the part that is failing, because the motor (engine) was working OK.

That board in the console is the machine board.

The motor control board is mounted down below on your washer base below your tub.
