Default Kitchenaid Water Leaking on Freezer Bottom

    Hi,

I have Kitchenaid Superba Side by Side Refrigerator.

Over the last month or so, ice seems to be forming on the bottom inside of the freezer. It looks like it is coming from behind the metal grate on the backside.

This ice that is forming is also melting on the side closest to the door and ultimately leaks out onto the kitchen floor.

I am pretty handy however if someone could give me an idea as to what is causing this, perhaps I can fix it myself.

    Thank you in advance!

    Default Drainline clog

If your icemaker is still working ok, then the water is coming from the defrost cycle (which occures every 6-8 hours onaverage).

This is going to sound odd, but it does work.

Go get a squeeze bottle like you would use for ketchup at picnics, and get a 3-4 foot section of plastic line with a 1/4 inch o.d.(like that which might be used to hook up the waterline to the fridge) cut the bottle tip to allow the waterline a tight fit and use silicon to seal it (making sure the line reaches the bottom of the ketchup bottle). fill the bottle with hot tap water and nuke it hotter, but don't boil it.

in the freezer, take off the bottom-most at the back panel and remove as much ice as you can without resorting to sharp (or blunt) instruments. look for a hole in the bottom of the back wall of the freezer and use the hot water bottle to clear a path (squeeze water out and let it melt the ice and let the suction of the bottle pull the same water back into the bottle and repeat). once you find the drain use the bottle to bore a hole down throught the ice untill the drain line is clear and no water comes back to the bottle, and viola, your drain line is clear.

    good luck

P.S. have lots of towels handy

    Default drainline clog

This has been an ongoing problem with my Kitchenaid also. I defrost the drain and it's back leaking in a couple of days. After I defrost I can feel that the drain is clear by sticking my finger into it. Maybe I'm not defrosting it 100% ?? Any suggestions would be appreciated !

What i usually do is run something down the defrost drain, like a 1/4" plastic tubing or something similar, to clear the drain completely.
