I bought a Samsung B1113J Front Load Washer off of Craigs List to install in my parent's old house. The guy said it was working fine and did a short demo - not a full cycle. After taking it to my paren't place, I installed it and tried starting it. It begins to fill up with water but before the wash cycle starts, it ends in an E1 error. I have to select "Drain" to drain the water. Trying to restart the wash cycle results in more water being input into the washer but another E1 error and the wash cycle does not start. I looked into the error and it is supposed to be an inlet water filter issue or water pressure. I checked the inlet water filter and it seems clean. It is an old house but I wouldn't think the water pressure would be so low but who knows. Anyone know of anything else that would cause this?
I tried running it in a few different modes but still get the same error after it begins to fill up with water. Please note that it fills up for a few minutes before throwing the E1 error. Any advice is appreciated. I have the possibility of bringing it to my place (a condo with high water pressure) and will likely try that but want to know if there are any other reasons for this error. Please let me know. Thank you. |

It could be the water level switch is not working properly.

Is that an easy repair? Can one DIY it or are Samsungs very tricky. I'm not sure about spending over $200 to repair it...

Just like everything,if you can do it, it's easy!!
The washer works like this; The water level switch opens when the water level in the tub reaches a preset level thus preventing any more water to enter the tub. Simultaneously, the wash cycle begins with the motor engaged if everything else is equal. The water level in the tub will continue to rise if the switch is stuck in the" close" position. You can bypass the switch by cutting away all wires connecting to it and then join back the wires together and use a piece of electrical tape for insulation. This configuration will help you determine whether the switch is the problem. |

I don't think it is a water level thing because what I tried was the following. I let the washer try to go to the wash cycle- i.e. I start the wash cycle and the washer begins to fill up with water. After a few minutes of hearing the water start to fill the washer, the filling stops and it goes into the E1 error. The first few times I would then drain the washer and then try it all over again. Same result each time (I tried severl different wash cycles). Then I thought if the reason was not enough water, then I wouldn't drain it. So I let it partially fill and let it go into the E1 error. I tuned it off and then started it again. This time you could really see it fill up but the same thing happened - after a few minutes, the water stopped filling and it would go into the E1 error. Is it was a water level thing, wouldn't the high water level allow it to start the actual wash cycle? Or maybe the meter is just dead and it won't start? Where could I get a water level switch? I've called the authorized repair in the area and it is $125 to show up at the door plus labour and parts. My parents place is an old house so maybe water pressure is the issue (the manuals says blocked inlet filter or low water pressure). Any other thoughts? This washer is about 5 years old and I bought it used off of Craigs List from what seemed an honest couple who said it worked. I wouldn't think they were lying but maybe I am being naive...

Should I spend $125 and get someone to look at it (that the fee for a full inspection)?
