Default What style washer for 2nd floor?

I have a 2nd floor laundry room: ceramic tile on 3/4 inch flake board, 16" joists. No drain pan. The other floors upstairs are wood. I'd been thinking front load without the pedestal, but now reading here I think that might cause too much vibration. Would I be better off with a top load? What about the top loads without the agitator? What brands? I'd like quiet and big. I have a Kenmore 90 series, less than 10 years old. It causes a little vibration, but we don't even notice it anymore. However, it has been maintenance trouble from the get-go and it is time to stop replacing parts.
Thanks for any input.
Susannah

Hi,

Yes, if its upstairs sitting on the pedestal, it will vibrate abit more than if it was just on the floor alone. Here in Oregon, I see alot of them on the 2nd floor and I rarely get complaints about them vibrating excessively.

The energy star top loaders without the agitator seem to be fine, no really big repair issues so far, except the older model Calypso's, but the new upgraded design ones seem fine now.

Thank-you for your reply. I just read another technician who said none of the residential machines can really handle a comforter, (like everyone else this is what I was thinking I could wash at home) so now I'm thinking to just go with a regular top-load. I will ponder and research this until I am scrubbing my clothes by hand !!
