Thread: Kenmore Limited Edition 10 Gas Water Heater Leaking From Bottom

Mr. icehouse is the hot water heater guru but I'm pretty sure there is a hose connection on the bottom for draining it. The best way to prevent the leak from becomming a larger issue is to replace the unit as soon as possible. I understand AO Smith is a good one.

Thanks. I didn't see anything along the bottom. Just one closer to the top by the temperature/pressure relief valve. Hmmmm... We ended up putting a cookie tray under where it's dripping. That at least stopped the water from getting all over the floor. Just need to empty the tray every 4 hours or so. Last night drained it at midnight, then woke up at 4 to empty it again before doing so again this morning. Luckily my wife only has to work from 9-12 today, so she can keep emptying it until the plumber comes this evening.

I also wanted to turn it off, but couldn't get the gas switch into the off position. I can turn it to the 'pilot' position, but not to the 'off' position. Oh well. Hopefully everything works out until this evening. Thanks again!

#4 is the drain valve you need to connect a garden hose to this. Shut off cold water inlet, open drain, open hot water faucet on sink or tub furthest from heater (speeds up the empting).

Thanks for the tip about a replacement. Will talk to my plumber and make sure he's replacing mine with one of these units (you're saying that A.O. Smith and all these other ones are comparable since they're owned by A.O. Smith, right?).
