Whirlpool Calypso Washer Will Not Drain
Our top-loading Whirlpool Calypso washing machine did not drain after the rinse cycle, and then gave the error message that indicates "Long Drain." The machine has been installed and functioning properly for several years, so I do not suspect there is anything about the installation that is causing the problem. In addition, we checked the drain hose and there does not appear to be a kink or clog (at least in the portion that extends from the machine to the wall.) Also, when we removed the hose from the drain and lowered it the floor, the water began to flow, and it emptied almost the entire tub of water.
Because the water does empty when the hose is lowered to the floor, we suspect that the discharge pump stopped working, perhaps because my husband used too much detergent in the load. This guess seems consistent with the troubleshooting guide in the owner's manual, which suggests that too many suds may cause the pump to stop.
If indeed the over-sudsing caused the problem, is there anything we can try to get the pump working again? Or is it possible that the suds have ruined the pump entirely?
Is there something other than sudsing that we should investigate as a possible cause?
After emptying the tub of the standing water, and placing the drain hose back into the drain, we tired to run another spin cycle, and then another rinse/spin cycle. Both times, the same thing happened: the water was left in the tub, and the "Long Drain" error code was given.
Thanks for any help or insight you can provide! Your time is much appreciated!

Hi Erin,
Its more likely something is stuck in your water pump, they have made an upgraded pump assembly for these now.
You'll need to remove the pump and check it.
Jeff has a good link about these as well:
