Whirlpool Dryer will not turn off
Electric Whirlpool Dryer will not turn off. It does heat up and the time run down, but will not cut off. You have to just turn the knob a tiny bit and it shuts off. If it's on a timed minute cycle the time will tick down, but not shut off. It's it's on a heat cycle (low heat, high heat, fluff) the timer sits in the same position.
I replaced the timer and the problem still seems to exist. The only noticeable difference is the timer is firmer when turning. When I described this problem to several appliance places on the phone they said it sounded like the timer.
In the past 12 months or so, I've replaced the heating element, thermostat and the motor. What else could need replacing?
I hate that I spent a little over $100 for a timer if that isn't the problem.

Hi,
You will need a new resister, you can order it here:
Part#279872
Power resistor kit for dryer timer
The resistor is located in the console near where your timer is at.

Jake,
Thanks for the reply. I looked at the back of my dryer for that part. My resistor seems to have a short wire that connects back to timer and then the other end runs back down into the dryer and connects to blower. Does sound about right?

hmm, does it look like the photo I linked to above?
It will be in your console where the timer is.
If you can take a digital photo of what your seeing and upload/link it here from a photo sharing website, I can confirm if thats it or not.

I will take a photo this evening. It does look similar to it. As I view the resistor from the rear of the console the right connection seems about the right amount of length to connect to the timer, but as the orange connector cable from the left side extends from the black part it extends all the way down into the back of the dryer tied to several of the other connector cables. I hope this is the right part, as I have already paid $100 for a new timer.

Jake, I found the part locally and it is way too short for what is installed on my dryer. I have these pictures I hope help. This resistor cable seems to be nearly 3 feet in length.

Jake,
The photos show you a comparison of the replacement part with the original resistor disconnected from the timer. The one photo with the arrow is where the orange cable is leading to. The highlighted yellow is to show you the length of this cable as it is detached from the timer.
You're right about the part, that is what Whirlpool shows as a replacement part, but something isn't right.

wow, something is really wrong, someone has modified that resister, do you buy this dryer used? or has another tech. worked on it?
I have never in my 20 years seen anything like that, and I've changed about 50 of these resistors in the last 20 years.
