Whirlpool Ultimate Care II stopped working mid cycle
Brand:
Whirlpool
Age:
1-5 years
My wife was recently doing her last load of laundry and the washing machine completely quit mid wash I believe when it was rinsing. The washer was full of water when it quit and now it doesn't do anything when you try and turn it on (on any setting). I'm guessing it's probably going to have to be replaced but I thought I would see if it's worth fixing first. Thanks for your help!

Hi,
Did you check the wall outlet just to make sure you have power, like plug a hair dryer in the same outlet plug receptacle as the washer and see if the hair dryer works.
If so, then its possibly the lid switch thats bad on your washer.
When you close your lid, do you hear a clicking sound just before your lid closes?
Here's the lid switch for your model you can order here:
Manufacturer part number 3949247 is RepairClinic item number 547225

Here's the video to access/change it:

Hey Jake,
I tried plugging something into the outlet earlier and it worked. I did just take a look and listen at that lid switch and it does not click when shut like normally which I didn't notice before. Weird thing is after looking at that lid switch I tried to turn it on and it started working. I'm guessing that switch came unstuck or switched the correct way and it allowed it to work temporary? Is that plastic flap in the switch suppose flip back when it's open? Thanks!

Here is a common problem I run into on those switches. The plastic "flap" you see is actually a lever on the switch. The post on the washer lid pushes the lever down and closes the switch. If you look right above the lever you'll see the two screws that hold the switch to the washer top. Those screws go directly into the plastic switch and have a habit of breaking right where they screw in. Even if one breaks, it's enough to keep the post from pushing the lever all the way down. In some cases it pushes the whole switch down and it would appear the lever is not returning.

Ok, after messing with that switch a little bit I'm pretty sure that's the problem. I just ordered one; I'll let you know if that fixes it once it gets here. Thanks!
