Whirlpool dryer keeps a-whirling but won't stop a-whirling!
Brand:
Whirlpool
Age:
6-10 years
Our Whirlpool gas dryer (model # LGQ8611W1 -- 6 years old) won't stop running. It's a fire hazard.
- Timed drying won't stop the dryer; and the dial won't move.
- Accu-Dry (humidity sensor) won't stop the dryer, either; again, the dial won't move.
- The dryer will stop when the dryer door is opened and will stay stopped even if that door is closed again.
- Pushing the dryer start button will start the dryer again if the dryer door is closed.
- The light inside the dryer will light.
- The dryer vent was cleaned about 9 months ago.
- There seems to be no other problems with the dryer.
Sure would appreciate any thoughts on what is wrong with this dryer.

Set your meter to read volts. Set the dryer on timed dry (you don't need to start it). Take a reading across the two black wires on the timer motor. If you read 120 VAC replace the timer:

Thank you for your response.
I tried with power to the unit and 120 VC did cross the two black wires. Thank you for your assistance.
