I apologize if this has been asked before but I'm not sure of another way to go about this...
The dryer will not tumble, but the motor runs. I took the top of the dryer apart (thinking it was a broken belt) after reading one of Jake's posts... my problem is that the belt looks intact. This is where I'm embarrassed to ask... if the drum belt was broken, would it actually be in two pieces? The belt is tightly wrapped around the drum and it spins both ways if I do it manually.
My next thought after reading the posts here is that it could be the motor or something stuck in that general area. Problem is that I don't see the motor! How do I get the drum off without doing permanent damage? Do I remove the belt first, or do the drum & belt all come off in one piece?
Thanks for reading and I eagerly await your response!

Check the belt is still on the motor pulley and the idler pulley isn't worn out. Remove the two screws holding the front panel on to the sides. Lean the front panel forward and pull straight up and it will come off. Here's a diagram of the belt.

I did as you suggested and the belt and pulley seem okay, except for the years of dust and lint build-up! I vacuumed it all out and filled up my dyson canister 1.5 times... I know, gross.
Soooo, as a side-note, I can't believe 2 little screws hold that drum in place, but so it goes. I put it all back together, plugged it back in and voila, the dryer runs and spins! What freaks me out a little is there's a slight smell. I really don't know how to explain, and I'm not sure that it's good or bad, but with all the cleaning I did underneath, could I have scrambled or moved some wires in there? It runs and nothing sparks! I understand that it'll be hard for you to answer not actually seeing or smelling the issue here, just wondering if that's common after a thorough clean out... btw, I only ran it for about 7-10 seconds. wondering if it could be the heat setting on the dryer...???
With all that cleaning it's not uncommon to get some lint on the element. Go ahead and run it and it should go away.
