    Hi,

I have a good way of testing this problem, open your control panel then take off the clear pressure switch hose and blow in the nipple of your water level pressure switch, if you don't hear a click sound when you blow into it, you will need to replace it. If you do, then you will need to replace your timer.

Also blow through your clear water level pressure switch hose that goes down to your tub, I've seen some clog at the end at the tub and cause this too.

    To get access to it:
You would need to open your console as shown here:
Removing the End Caps on Kenmore model#110 Whirlpool built
Pull forward and up on the console and you can hinge it open and hanging from the hinges.

Thanks for the info. I tried what you suggested and the pressure switch does make a click when you blow into it and the plastic hose appears to be open and not clogged up. I had another timer that I had bought a few years ago, so I changed it out. Then machine is still doing the same thing - intermittently. Sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes it starts agitating and filling with water as soon as you push the knob in to start a cycle. If you pull the knob out and rotate it before pushing it in again, it will eventually work correctly. Do you think both timers could be bad? Where does the other end of the plastic tube go?

Thats odd, where did you buy that other timer from a few years ago?

Yes, it sounds like both timers are bad.

Where does the other end of the plastic tube go?
It goes down the the right side of the outer tub assembly.

Ok, well the water level pressure switch seems to be working since it clicks, so I'd order another timer.

Okay, thanks. I will have to decide if I want to spend the $100+ on a washer that is close to 10 years old or just bite the bullet and buy a new washer.

Yes, I agree. Since its about 10 years old it may be more wise to buy a new washer, especially if it gets used a lot.

I accidentally discovered what the problem is. If you gently push in on the timer know when it starts to do the agitating while filling trick, then it works properly.

Yea but you still shouldn't have to do that, so something is still wrong with the timer. But to save you another $100 for another timer, then if your able to use it like that, then thats fine.
