Default duet washer spin cycle problems

    Hi,

I have a 9100 model duet (front loading) washer that has problems with the spin cycle. If it has no load, is can spin fast; with medium load it shakes a lot when it tries to spin fast as its trying to get into high gear...the main drum bounces around and the shocks move up and down; on heavy load it will hardly spin at all.

History: this washer had all sorts of problems 6 months ago after i moved it across country. Apparently the shocks got busted and the dispenser compartment leaked, causing water damage to the MCU. I had the the MCU, dispenser and shocks replaced.

I'm wondering now if the shocks are not installed correctly (are they supposed to go up and down so much or are they supposed to be 'locked'?). Why can't the drum spin as fast / in a balanced motion as it's supposed to?

    Thank you!

The shocks should be installed ok, Is your washer now sitting on wood base flooring?

Here in Oregon, this is common when front load washers are installed on wood base flooring, rather than concrete. They will shake alot when coming up to speed, then slowing down to stop.

Default duet washer spin cycle problems

Thank you Jake. The washer is now on vinyl flooring which likely has wood underneath. Is there a way to fix this kind of problem with the current flooring?

We have just purchased a Duet Sport, and outside of the general satisfaction we have with its performance, we are concerned, like you, with issues of machine shaking and "walking" around in the landry room.

Our Duet Sport replaced an older (9 years) Frigidaire front-loader that did a similar "shimmy and shake" in the laundry room of our previous home. I solved that problem by going to my local Joe Homeguy center, and purchasing an adjustable floor jack-post, and a 4 X 6 beam of suitable length (about 4-5 feet).

By accessing my crawlspace under the house, I installed these goodies directly under the flooring supporting the washing machine, transferring the loads directly to the ground underneath my house.

The beam is installed perpendicular to the direction of the floor-joists, spanning at least three of them. The floor jack, which is basically a steel-tube with a flat-plate on the bottom and a screw-thread adjustable plate on top of it, was then adjusted to slightly un-load the floor right under the washer.

Here is what a jack-post looks like:

    http://www.tigerbrandjackpost.com/super_s.htm

The steel-tube sits on a piece of scrap 3/4" plywood; sometimes a double layer of this is a good idea. A few wood-screws can be added to help keep everything in-place, if desired. You can accomplish the same thing with solid wood supports and wedge-shims to adjust the load, but the steel jack-post is easy.

This not only stopped the "shimmy and shake", but also reduced a lot of noise that accompanied the problem. I'm going to take the same approach to dealing with this problem with the new Duet.

This may seem like a lot of effort to deal with this problem. However, home construction being what it is today (my place is 5 years old, the washer sits on a floor that is supported off the concrete foundation right behind the washer), residential floors have a lot of "spring" in them, and the only way to take it out is to use methods like these--if you have crawl-space access, and favorable to the method.
