I've read many threads on the F11 and FdL errors on this washer. Unfortunately, I appear to be one of many with this problem - even worse out of warranty. As many have found out, Whirlpool is non responsive and choosing to ignore what appears to be a common problem (based on a multitude of posts on the web). They actually told me today they're not aware of a problem like this.
Like others, I've incurred the $80 cost for a service repair only to have the "tech" ask me what error codes I saw when the problem happened. He barely looked at the machine. What an absolute scam. I now need to go the route of having this washer (purchased in 9/04) repaired out of warranty. I know the first "round" is going to cost up to $375 to replace the Motor Control Unit (MCU) and the Door Lock. Do you have any suggestions about what I should demand of the service company? More specifically, I want to try to avoid them running through a list of replacement parts in multiple visits until something works. Is there any way for me to ensure they're doing the right thing? I'm not entirely comforable resoldering anything but would am perfectly capable of removing and replacing boards (I've done this in a PC for years and would think this is somewhat similar.) Should I go this route instead of a service company who's alread ticked me off? I've already removed the front panel to see if any of the connections were loose (MCU and door lock) but this doesn't appear to be the problem. Thanks in advance for your advice. |

This is our main thread for the F11 error:
http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=5173 Here's the CCU for your model: Part#8182280 It explains how to access and change the CCU in that link I posted, it has the repair manual in it. All parts ordered from our site here have a 30 day full refund even if it was installed and didn't work. Heres another thread that talks about the error FdL too with the F11: http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=6990 Jake

I hope this helps some of you and future F11 code receivers. I followed the advise on this site and problem resolved!! However, I came up with a few more things to check to avoid the problem in the future. Because of the usefull advice I received on this site, I paid the 'lifetime membership' just to post, what I hope, will be usefull information.
I hit pause/cancel twice to kill the cycle and release the door lock. I then unplugged the unit to remove power supply. As instructed, removed the three screws at the base of the lower front cover. What is exposed, in the center, is a pump filter housing. When you unscrew (easily by hand) you will remove the filter. Please expect a ton of water, so if you have the pedestal, pls remove contents (I used a wetvac and still had water run over). I removed from the filter 6 infant socks, then removed 2 more from the black rubber bladder in which the pump and filter populates. I then reversed the procedure to 'close the deal' and decided to inspect where the socks could have possibly entered the system. I opened the door and GENTLY pulled back the gasket between the washer drum and washer door. I found another 3 socks that belonged to the family. I could not find where they could have entered the filter area, but now I know where to check. Once all was clear and had the unit back together, I returned the power supply and all is as good as new. The first thing I noticed is the water level remained as low as the new unit, I did not get a suds error, and the cycles finished as a new unit. I hope this helps someone out there, it was worth the small subscription to post this resolution and the savings from having a repair visit... good luck!! ![]() |
