When I apply a little downward pressure on the handle the micro heats and turns. I assume I have a door latch or alignment issue. How do I fix this?

Hi,

You or someone will have to access the door keys, door switchs and door switch mechanisms to check and diagnose them to see what has happened.....loose/burnt wire, bad switch, plastic broken in the mechanism, ect.

That is part of a full model#.

Thanks Jeff. I will try this on my own. I assume I need to remove the unit to access these parts and of course discharge the capacitor. Correct?

Door switches normally can be accessed in place through the consol opening, door is accessed by opening the door. Discharging the HV capacitor is a good idea, but none of these items are on the high voltage side but always better to be safe than sorry.

OK, Here is where I am.

1) I removed the consol to inspect the switches and latches.
2) Upon visual inspection there are no broken plastic pieces and all three switches look and sound fine. The switching mechanisms all seem to engage properly when the door is closed.
3) I removed the 3 switches to test for continuity. In your picture above the upper and lower switched showed continuity when the switch was engaged. The middle switch showed continuity when the switch was not engaged. I believe they are all fine.
4) I reattached everything and I still have the same problem. The micro lights up when I hit start, but I need to put downward pressure on the handle to get it to heat and have the carousel turn. I watched the switched as I applied dowward pressure and I did not notice anything getting engaged.

Any ideas for next steps?

Further update....

I retested continuity using the door to depress the mechanism instead of my figure. Sure enough, the top swith seems to fail (i.e. no continuity) when the door pushes the mechanism in too far. When I put pressure on the handle, the pressure on the mechanism lessens and switch works.

I assume the switch is faulty and should be replaced??

Sounds like a good plan so far

When the new switch is in place, leave the 2 mounting screws loose that hold the switch assy to the microwave. Close the door so the switch assy can self adjust to the door and with the door closed tighen up the mounting screws.
