Arg.
I posted earlier this morning in another thread about the F02 error message my Whirlpool Duet model #GHW9150 has been showing. We bought our washer nearly a year and a half ago without researching brands or models (in desperation with 4 young kids--"what is available today?!") The first time I had the F02 message was about 2 weeks after the warranty expired. I found your site, read related threads and links, and was able to remove the filter and find it was jammed with items--a loonie, a sock and several small stones. After that, it worked great. Now, about 4 months later, it is showing the F02 message again. I assumed it was the filter again, but only found a candy wrapper in it when I checked it this time. I went back to your site and had my husband check the drain hose, but he said it was not plugged at all when he removed it and checked it. The last time I was able to do what others have said, about giving it time and then running the drain cycle, etc., but this time, the motor is just running and running and I see no spinning or action at all (just a squirt of water runs across the door at the start of the "drain and spin" cycle, then a low hum). In fact, the machine is unresponsive when I push the cancel button, and I cannot even get it to stop or for the door to unlock. The only way to make the motor stop is to unplug the machine, and the door remains locked (thus I can't access the last 3 numbers of the model number). Incidently, removing those 3 screws takes some doing, as I can't turn the hex key without lifting the washer with a crowbar and holding the front of it up with blocks of wood. Could I have muddled something up in that process? The first time I did it, 4 months ago, I had been able to empty the machine of water first by running the drain cycle, but because of my current problem (electrical??), the machine was still full of water, so I just had a stack of towels ready for when I pulled off the filter this time. Where would you go from here? Trish |

Hi Trish,
Its likely you'll need the water pump now as I mentioned in that other thread here: Receiving F02 Error Code I hate to say this, but I have to as it will help you and others, I ran into this issue continuously with families that have alot of kids. Also check the pockets before putting the clothes in the washer, as you know things will get in this water pump easily. When things start getting in the water pump, it effects the impeller in the water pump and either breaks the plastic impeller fins or the water pump bearing itself. Jake

Hi Jake
Thanks for your quick response. I ended up calling a repairman who has already come and gone. A sock was caught inside. He showed me that most front loaders have a rubber boot around the opening. When we pulled it back, mine was jammed full of socks! He told me that over time, the socks make their way into a gap leading into the machine (about the width of my finger) and end up somewhere along where the water drains. We talked about preventing the problem. Like you, he said this is a common problem for large families. If I run large loads (always!!), he said to only include large items (towels, jeans). By running smaller loads with small items (socks and underwear) or bagging them in a mesh garment bag, he said we are much less likely to have this be a recurring problem for us. And all those lost socks I regained this morning!! Thanks for your information, though. It got us through when we had this problem of the plugged filter back in May. Have a wonderful day! Trish |

I always wondered where socks disappeared to, I never thought they were still in the washer. I has suspected some of them occassionaly converted entirely to lint in the dryer, but I never thought they were hiding in tact in the washer.
