Question [FIXED] Puzzling....

Hi Jake,
Washer has been working well and I have been sure to remove all nickles from the water pump before using! :O)
However, now the dryer is having issues. It was working just fine, took a load out and the next morning it would not start at all. Sounds like the timer is going if put on timed dry, but no go with the start button.
Son just home from ice hockey tourney....need to do laundry...BAD!! haha
Thank you!
April

Hi April,

Sounds like your thermal fuse went out, its located in the back of your dryer. Pull your dryer away from the wall, Unplug it, then take off the back access panel.

The thermal fuse is #7 here, located on your blower wheel housing:

You would need a volt/ohm meter to ohm test that for continuity. Or you can jump the thermal fuse wires together and see if it comes on, if it does, don't run it with the thermal fuse jumped, order the thermal fuse.

Check your exhaust hose for clogs or restrictions in it, and go outside your house and check it where it comes out from your vent. Clogs and restrictions in the exhaust hose/vent is the #1 cause of that thermal fuse going out.

Here's the thermal fuse for your model you can order:
Manufacturer's Number: 3392519

Default No go on the thermal fuse

Hi Jake,
Took your suggestion and replaced the thermal fuse. It did allow the dryer to run once, but again, it will not start when I went to use it today after the intial post-fuse run.. Seems like there is power, but the on button will just not turn it on. Any other ideas?
Thanks!
April

Unless the heating element isn't turning itself off, can you see the heating element cycling off and on without clothes in it when its running?

Good morning Jake,
We would have to jump the wires together to see this, but a few questions before we do:

1. Where would we be looking to see the heating element to tell if it is going on and off,

2. What would cause a heating element to stay on?

As I thought about this last night I remembered that I did notice on the last load before this began that I went to clean out the lint trap and it was very "sticky" (lint not fluffly and did not want to come off easily as it ususally does). Didn't see anything weird or stains or "goo" on clothing, but this not starting of the dryer happened right after that.

You would leave the back access panel off and run it and look at your heating element glowing red/orange continually, and not cycling off.

The most common cause for it to stay on continually is a grounded heating element meaning that either the heating element wire broke and is touching the heating element metal housing, or a bra under wire got lodged in the heating element(very, very, common) causing the same effect.

Talking It's fixed! :O)

Hi Jake,
Just wanted to let you know our dryer is working and back on full duty!
you were right on with the thermal fuse. Just had to figure out what was making it blow. Restricted air flow from the dyer sheet build-up on the lint screen was the culprit...replaced it with a new lint screen and a new fuse and she is good to go!
Thanks (again!!) for the great advice!!
Best regards,
April
