Hi Robert,

Sounds like your tub drive hub is stripped.

Here's the tub drive block for your model:
Manufacturer part number 389140 is RepairClinic item number 2858
389140

To get access to, and check the drive block read #2 & #7 here:
http://www.applianceaid.com/procedures.html
Once you remove the inner basket you can see it and get access to it.

Drive block may be worn out. This sometimes is accompanied by some strange noises as well, but a worn drive block will also stop the spin from working. You will need to remove the agitator to see the drive block.

Jake,

the washer does seem to work and spin.
there is just a loud banging noise like an uneven heavy load of clothes.

i removed the cabinet and see that the tub seems to have no right front side underneath support as the left front and back do. The tub has no suspension at that point and seems to hit the metal as a result.
Does this sound like the hub or possible the suspension pads or maybe the counter balance spring in the back?

thx robert
