My Whirlpool Dryer model # LER6620PT0 is no longer heating. Wife had a large comforter in the dryer and now for 2 days it runs but puts out no heat. Is there a internal fuse I need to check? Thank you.

Just did one more test while waiting for a reply. Since my wash room is right next to my Garage, I unhooked the vent hose and directed it out into the garage and let it run for 10 minutes, no heat at all.

Hi,
Unplug your dryer, pull it out from the wall, take the back panel off. I would start by checking for continuity on your thermal cut-off. If you don't have an ohm meter take the wires off and jump it, use alligator clips OR electrical tape to tape them together, just for testing, DON'T RUN IT THAT WAY FOR A CYCLE IF IT WORKS! Here is a photo of the back of your dryer without the back access panel on: #1 is your thermal cut-off. Here's the one for your model you can order: Part#279816 Jake

I do get a reading from this point. What is the next step? I also used a small nail in between the plastic clips I removed as I did not want to cut the wires, I ran for a few minutes and no heat. So then I got a OHM meter. I am no expert on reading these meters, but I did get a reading while touching the contacts where I removed the clips from. I was hoping this was it.
It reads between the 1 and 2 on the meter set at RX1. I also tested the the other fitting on the bottom side of the cover (straight below the one you told me to test) and it also reads. Now what?Last edited by lykly; April 21st, 2009 at 06:52 AM.. |

Ok, now ohm test the heating element#4 in the diagram I posted above.
Take the wires off the heating element first. A normal reading will be between 11-30 ohms. Make sure your dryer is unplugged first! Here's the heating element for your model in case you need to order it: Manufacturer's Number: 279838 Jake

There was no reading on the heating element. Took it out and sure enough it is broken. I will post once it is replaced with results. Thanks Jake.
