Default [FIXED] Bad Timer / Water Pump / Other Issue - Whirlpool Washer

I have an 8 yr old Whirlpool Washer (model # LSR8233JQ0) that is not working correctly.

1. When I start a cycle the tub fills normally.
2. Agitator starts and timer advances.
3. Here is where the problem starts. The water in the tub does not drain and the timer does not advance to the rinse cycle. If I physically advance the timer past the rinse cycle, the washer will start the agitator for 30 second burst until it gets to the next drain cycle right before the spin cycle. At the next drain cycle the timer stalls. I removed the water in the tub and advanced the timer to the spin cycle, washer does not start spinning and timer stays does not advanced.

I removed the cabinet and checked the drain hoses, no clogs. Could the problem just be a bad timer?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Are you able to get the water to drain out at all?

Try just putting your timer in the spin cycle to see if it will even spin first.

I cannot get the water to drain at all.

After I drained all the water out of the tub I put the timer on the spin cycle and nothing happened. When I put it on the spin cycle should it start spinning right away? I only left it on the spin cycle for a minute before I stopped the cycle. That's what got me thinking it was the timer that was bad and not the pump, but just not sure. I will try it again when I get home after work.

I will also try checking the lid switch.

Yes, I'm thinking lid switch as well, because when your lid is down and you put it in spin, it should spin immediately.

Now when you close your lid, do you hear a clicking sound just before your lid closes?

Here's the lid switch for your model, in case you need to order it:
Manufacturer's Number: 3949247

Here's a help link to access it:

Yup, was the lid switch. The plastic housing split open, so even though the switch would click the circuit wasn't being completed. Was able to get it working by taping the housing closed, but will have to order the part soon as the plastic part that accepts the mounting screws is starting to crack. Thanks for the link and the help, I'm just glad it wasn't something major like the motor.

Is there any preventative maintenance tips you would recommend since I'll have the cabinet off to change the switch? Would like to keep this thing running for another 8 - 10 years.

Good job finding it was the lid switch.

Nope, there shouldn't be any other preventive maintenance you would need to do on it.
