Sorry, I dont know what else to call the cylinder where the clothes fly around so I'm referring to it as the barrel. I'm a Marine, doesn't everything useful have a barrel?
![]() The unit is 10 years old. Hopefully someone here has some experience with these older models. If I set to a heat setting and run the dryer, no heat at all is generated. The clothes turn in the barrel and there is a high volume of airflow in the lint screen channel so something is happening, just not hot. The gas source is functional as the hot water heater works and they are on the same line. Any ideas? Does someone have a service manual for these old units that would give me points to check and whether they are normal open or closed with power not connected, no energized circuits. I know my way around a multimeter (oscope and spectrum analyzer too bit I hope I wouldn't need to use them on a dryer) Thanks! Jeff |

Hi Jeff,
Barrel is good. But all us dryer techies call it a drum.![]() Its possibly your thermal fuse. Pull your dryer away from the wall, then Unplug it, then take off the back access panel and you can ohm it for continuity or take the wires off and jump it, use alligator clips or electrical tape to tape them together, just for testing, DON'T RUN IT THAT WAY FOR A CYCLE IF IT WORKS! Here is a photo of the back of your dryer without the back access panel on: #5 is your white thermal fuse. Here's the thermal fuse for your model in case you need to order it: Manufacturer's Number: 3392519 The main reason the thermal fuse blows is air flow restrictions in your exhaust hose that goes to the outside of your home, lint build-up over the years effects the air flow, also go outside and check your dryer vent, that can clog up too. I will check both and let you know.
Another clue that might indicate something, the dryer will run nonstop until you open the door. Meaning if I set it on auto/high-heat there will be no heat generated but the dryer will go all night long until I go open the door. The clothes end up drying from flying around in ambient temp air for 8 hours. |

Put it on timed dry to see if the timer moves there.
Do you hear and clicking sounds from your dryers gas coils when its trying to heat? Jake

Here is the opened back of my dryer. It looks a little different from your picture.
I do not hear any clicking sounds while running. I know the sound you are referring to, like an auto gas value or burner. I don't hear it. Just the drum and airflow sounds. Flopping clothes, etc. I posted this pic because there are components in your pic missing from mine. |

Yes, some of the components are missing on yours because the one I posted above is an electric and yours is gas, but the thermal fuse is the same, were you able to check the white thermal fuse on yours for continuity?
