Default Whirlpool Duet taking long time to dry

I just bought a used whirlpool duet gas dryer that is taking long time to dry, I took off my vent and ran it and did not seem to help, I can hear the heat kick on after about 5 seconds and does not seem to kick off but when I put my hand where exhaust blows out it just feels warm not hot any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help. By the way model #is wgd8300sw0

Did you buy it used from a used appliance store or private party?

I'd first take off the lower access panel under your door, its #41 here, just remove the #43 screws:

Then run it empty and watch the flame to see how big it is and how long exactly it stays on.

Then report back what you find.

Default Dryer

Hello I took off cover and watched the flame start, flame is not full in chamber but seemed consistent - I only watched for a minute should I run a load and check often? I bought from a individual, I ran diagnostic code with no fault code showing , there is a way of adjusting dry settings to 1,2 or 3 it was set at 1 should I change the setting, thanks for the help.

Yes, make sure the flame is blowing good towards the back of the flame tunnel, and time it to see how long it stays on.

Not sure what your referring to, where are those settings located at?

Default dryer

I will watch the flame, the settings I am talking about are in diagnostic mode in heat settings. The flame is not full in the tunnel probably a little over half but is blowing inward, there is good airflow out back of the dryer but just feels warm to me not hot is that normal?

Normal temp is 160, do you have anything you can measure the temperature with?

Ok, I found it, that must be a new feature, I've never seen that on the other models before.

Here's the online tech. data sheet for your model:

I'd put it on 3.

Default dryer repair

I will have to come up with something for temperature, I have a elbow run from the exhuast without a hose and it just feels warm I can't imagine it is 160, is that where the temperature reading is taken?

The temperature reading should be taken from inside the dryer while its running, but I know thats not always practical, as most people don't have temp. probes as techs do.

I use a laser temp. gun, but its $70.

If you can't take the temp from inside the drum, then pull the dryer out from the wall and take the exhaust hose off and take the temp right from where the air comes out of the dryer.

You could pick-up a dryer thermometer at your local appliance parts store.

Here's one that will work great too with ovens and dryers:

Default dryer repair

I emailed the guy I bought the dryer from and he told me he had it setup to run on propane, if this is the case would this be the problem why it is not heating up the wat it should? If this is the case how hard is it to convert back to natural gas? Any help is appreciated

Ok, then yes that would make the difference.

Does he have the burner orifice that was removed when the LP one was installed? If not, you'll need to buy it.

Here's is the Natural Gas orifice for your model:
Manufacturer part number 15418 is RepairClinic item number 418814
15418

Its #9 here:

You will also need to unscrew #15 and turn the plastic piece in it over.
