Default Duet Dryer-Lint in housing and dryer doesn't heat

Hi,

First off I love this site it has saved us a lot of money! Last week I replaced the motor pump in our washer and everything is working great. Come Monday night however, the Whirlpool Duet dryer (Model GEW9200LW0) was running but not drying. I'm thinking it's the thermal fuse or the thermistor because we pulled the dryer out to work on the washer and when we moved it back our vent was pretty close to the wall. We replaced the thermistor a couple years back based on info from this site and all has been good.

My bigger dilemma (though I'll take your suggestions on what to check first on above) is that we get an incredible amount of lint build up in the housing of the dryer. Very dangerous, fire hazard lint, unless we go in monthly (atleast) to clean it out. My husband took the back panel off and we have the front off as well. I could see a gap between the drum and the felt and wonder if the felt is replaceable and how much effort that would take. Not sure is that's the only area it's coming in from though.

Please Help Soon!
We are considering getting a much simpler dryer without the electrical controls and there is a good sale at Sears this Sunday for 30% off so we would like to decide whether to fix our dryer or just buy a new one.

Thanks so much for your help,

Cindi

Model GEW9200LW0 Duet Dryer

Just to clarify. Iwould much rather save the dryer I have than purchase a new one. Also, don't want to fix heating issue until I know we can resolve the amount of lint coming into the housing.

Thanks

Yes there is quite a bit there. However, I mean it is everywhere; outside the barrel, on the electronic control panel, surrounding the housing for #14, on the "floor" of the dryer... we have to take that bottom panel off and literally vacuum out the interior there.

In that case, it means your ventilation that goes to the outside of your house isn't venting properly, I wouldn't say its the gap between the drum and the front or back felt, unless you see signs of the felt wearing, there usually is a small gap between the drum and felts. Pull the dryer away from the wall and check the exhaust hose, lots of times I see that exhaust hose get crushed or kinked restricting the air flow to the outside.

Also go outside and see how much air is coming out from your vent, should be a good strong flow.
