When I cycle the timer for my Whirlpool WED5700SWO the heater begins heating but the dryer will not start. I had just had a heater problem where one of the thermostats had failed and the heater wouldn't start. While I was troubleshooting this, I noticed that one of the insulators on the heater had dislodged and the wire was shorting on some metal in the heater. I fixed this problem but shortly after this, now the dryer won't start. Any ideas on where to look for the problem on this one?

Sounds like the heating element is grounding out.
You will need a new heating element. Here's the cheapest heating element I could find for your model you can order: Part#279838 Jake
