I think I fried the timer testing out the door switch. I am calling a professional to come fix it. I'll let you know the results.

Ok, had the tech come out. He confirmed that power was getting to the motor fine but when he hooked up a new motor, nothing happened. He suspects either a short somewhere in the dryer which would cost more than the dryer to fix or that we've lost neutral to our house (which i think is totally bs, besides nothing else is wrong anywhere in our house and when i test the outlet with the multimeter it is showing 240 for the two hot holes, 125 left to ground, 125 right to ground). He says this because when he tests the power to the motor, he gets 125 to it with the door switch open but when it is pressed, he only gets 106. I don't know what to think. I don't really want to hire an electrician just to confirm that our house is grounded properly but i don't want to buy a new dryer and have it not work either if the grounding is the problem.

Any thoughts?

I do remember something odd like this happening thats familiar to what the tech. said, and the neutral was lost not to your house, just to your separate breaker that powers the dryer.

If the neutral was lost, how is it still reading the correct voltage from the recepticle?

Thats what I wondered as well, I even had another tech. go back to it after I did just to have verify it, and sure enough that was it.

This is a very rare oddity, I only ran across this once in my 22 years of appliance repair.

Ok, had an electrician come out. He determined that our house electricity was perfect. Anyway, whatever the problem is beyond a simple repair that either I or the service technician can fix without it costing more than a new dryer so I am buying a new dryer now.
