Default Kitchenaid agitator

Hi,
The agitator on my Kitchenaid topload KAWS777E is not working properly. I noticed during the last load that the agitator was not rotating as much as usual, the agitator motor was audible, and the clothes were barely moving around or down. With the washer empty, the top part of the agitator moves freely with no "catch" to the bottom agitator, and the bottom agitator doesn't move at all.

With a little bit of searching here I've removed the fabric softener dispenser, but do not see how to remove the barrier cap.

Can you please advise:
1. Are there any schematic diagrams available, more detailed than RepairClinic.com - Washing Machine - Top Load Whirlpool Style - Detailed Appliance Diagram?
2. How can I remove the barrier cap? Does it unscrew? If so, CCW as one looks at it?
3. Any suggestions as to whether the problem is the "dogs" or some other and how to proceed?

Thanks very much,
the streamers

Yes.

Lift up. Pry or slightly twist while pulling up. ( some break )

Worn out agitator drive dogs are very possible.

Hi Jeff,

Sorry, it's the KAWS777EQ0. Is the agitator repair kit you linked the right one for this model? I got the barrier cap off and the dogs are worn. Your links look great for getting the job done.

Thanks!
