Default Gas dryer timer will NOT stop

Problem:
Whirlpool Gas (lp) dryer model LGR4624BQO timer will NOT stop moving (turning).

Symptoms:
The dryer itself will only stop when the timer reaches the stop positions on the dial but the timer itself will keep turning and then once it reaches the begining of the next cycle the dryer will start on its own again. The only way I can prevent this is to leave the dryer door open and the door switch keeps the dryer from restarting but the timer keeps moving irregardless. If I put my ear down to the timer, I can actually hear the timer running. If I start a new load/cycle after the timer has been in the off position, then I need to push the start button.

I haven't seen this particular scenario in the forum so I thought I'd post for an answer. Any help would be appreciated. Thx!

t~

Sort of sounds like you have contacts welded inside of the timer that should be opening in the off position...
