I have an old Roper microwave model 295 2000, an over-the-oven model. It's completely dead -- no lights, beeps, etc. Could there be an internal fuse burned out in it? It was made in 1984, but I like it and hope to fix it if possible. Suggestions?

Thanks Jeff. I checked the links you provided, but I'm not sure whether you meant that the fuse is something that I can replace myself. I found a fuse at http://www.repairclinic.com/0081.asp?RccPartID=716025 but would like to know if you think that this fuse might be all that's needed to revive my dead micro, and if this is something am amateur like me can handle. Yes.

But there are other things ( mentioned ) that can make the unit go dead.

Fuse, thermostat, fuse holder are all fairly simple things to do yourself....but microwaves can shock/kill you...even unplugged.

things to check are the interlocks for sc(monitor interlock etc),ht transformer shorted turns,ht rectifier for sc,mag filament sc to chassis,ht capacitor sc and asm rectifier (if fitted for sc).....also check your oven lamp hasnt died.....
